The Bandra Holiday Court on Sunday remanded Mohd Shariful Islam Shehzad, the accused in the stabbing of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, to five days of police custody. Mumbai Police confirmed that the accused is an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh who entered the actor’s residence intending to commit theft.

The 31-year-old accused, a native of Jhalokati district in Bangladesh, was apprehended at Hiranandani Estate in Thane while allegedly planning to flee to his native village. Investigation teams were formed to probe the case, and charges were filed under sections 311, 312, 331(4), 331(6), and 331(7) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).

The incident, reported by Aleyamma Philip, a 56-year-old staff nurse, took place on January 16 around 2:00 a.m. at Saif Ali Khan’s Bandra apartment. The actor sustained serious injuries, including stab wounds to his thoracic spine.

Following the attack, Saif was rushed to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery to remove a 2.5-inch-long blade. According to hospital officials, the procedure was successful, and the actor has been moved from the ICU to a regular room. While Saif is now “out of danger,” medical staff continue to monitor his recovery closely.

On Sunday, Saif’s family, including his mother Sharmila Tagore, wife Kareena Kapoor Khan, and sons Taimur and Jeh, visited Lilavati Hospital to check on his condition.

Police investigations are ongoing, with further efforts to uncover the accused’s activities and potential connections to other crimes. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice in the case.
